This year’s CBCA Book of the Year Shortlist was announced on Tuesday 25 March 2025. Use this list for your library or school, especially if you have children joining Shadow Judging.
We received 730 entries for 15 expert judges to assess in this year’s awards. The notables showcases the work of 122 books, representing 31 publishers, 114 writers and 79 illustrators. The shortlist are the top six in each category.
These categories reflect the breadth of children’s literature written by Australians. They also reflect our aim to promote quality reading for young Australians of a wide age-range and reader ability.
